Okay so some of you may have heard the Gospel before. We live in the south so I get it- maybe you know who Jesus is!
If you know what I’m talking about then that is awesome and I’m so thankful that you have been hearing about Jesus. What may come as a shock to some is that living in the south, going to church, and believing that there is one God do not mean that you are a Christian. Even the demons believe that there is one God, and they shudder at the thought, but they surely are not Christians (James 2:19).
If you are a Christian, then I would like to greet you as my brother or sister in Christ and I encourage you to read on still! If you haven’t heard the Gospel, then I want to tell you that it is the best news you will ever hear. I’m praying for all who read this, and I’m praying that God will type through me and use me as His vessel, that I won’t stand in His way. The sharing of His Gospel is for His glory!
Romans 6:23 lays it out pretty clear:
A wage is something you earn. When you have a job, you get paid for your work.
sin is anything against God, anything bad or wrong, it’s when we miss the mark.
death is leaving this earth. In this context, death refers to hell and total separation from God.
So what we see is that what we have earned for the sins we commit is death-
an eternity spent in hell and separated from God. We deserve hell because we
have earned it.
For ALL have sinned and fall short of the glory of God according to Romans 3:23.
A free gift is something not earned.
If a gift was earned or paid for by the receiver, then it wouldn’t be
much of a gift. a free gift is free, unearned.
God is perfect, He is the opposite of sin and He is over all.
Eternal life refers to Heaven, an eternity spent with God after we leave this earth.
God offers us a special gift. He is able to offer it because His Son, Jesus Christ died for our sins, in order to pay our debt so we don’t have to.
This makes it a totally FREE gift for us: eternal life.
God wants us to accept that gift.
He doesn’t want us to try to earn it-
it has already been paid for in full by Jesus.
Earning it would be impossible because we are so so sinful
What an offense it would be if you bought someone a really nice gift that you worked hard for and were wanting to give them, and they tried to pay you back for it!
That devalues your gift! That would make the gift NOT a gift.
God doesn’t expect us to give Him anything in return.
How sad that sometimes we think that our human efforts, tainted with sin, could equate to what He sacrificed. Any gift we could have to offer- going to church, worshiping, praying, being sweet- all of those combined could never add up to enough to pay God back. Believing that those things can get us into Heaven is a slap in the face- if we could earn our way up, then why would God send Jesus?
We have messed up BIG TIME, and we need help. Good news: God loves us. Oh how He loves us! He loves us unconditionally- meaning that He loves every single person the exact same amount, no matter what you have done, are doing, or will do tomorrow! He loves me as much as He loves you. Nothing we will EVER do will make Him love us ANY less or ANY more. It is unchanging. Because of His great love, He sent His One Son, whom He also loved so dearly, to live on this earth 2000 years ago. God the Son, Jesus Christ, is the only One who could ever take on all the sins of the world and pay for them. Jesus lived a perfect life on earth and died a gruesome death on a cross, bearing every sin, paying the price for all of them.
So Jesus Christ died and went through the punishment that I was supposed to suffer. Three days later, He rose from the dead and He ascended into Heaven to be with God the Father again.
Now eternal life is a free gift. We can do nothing to earn it!
God wants us to ACCEPT this gift for what it is. It’s important
that we realize we are sinners-tell Him that! Confess
that- yeah, we mess up constantly. We need Him! He
wants us to surrender our lives to Him, and let Him take
control. Let Him be your Lord and Savior.
His plans are SO much greater than our own and
He wants us to know Him like He knows us-completely
As a Christian, I have been BOUGHT with a price, purchased by the blood of Jesus.
I am not my own- I am God’s adopted child.
I have accepted the gift of salvation and I have surrendered my life to Him!
I must die to my own desires and my own self each day because
I’m not perfect, I fail all day every day. God knows that!
But being perfect is NOT what it’s about.
It’s the fact that I am now called righteous by God
because Jesus’ perfect record has been given to me, as He has paid for my dirty record.
Jesus stamped me ‘Accepted’ and ‘Paid For’
I can live in that freedom! My purpose is to point to Him in all I do, say, and think so that He may be glorified and so that more may come to know Him!
